RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award)

North Sacramento will again sponsor two junior high school students to attend Rotary's Youth Leadership Camp.  This camp is comprised of over 100 students from schools in Northern California and Nevada.  Students learn how to conduct meetings, work with their peers and communication skills.  Motivational speakers and a session on interview skills add to the program.

Essay Contest

Students from several sixth grade classes have an opportunity to express themselves and win cash prizes.  The top six contestants are invited to the club and the number one essay is presented to the club.

Speech Contest

We will have students from Grant High School compete in a speech contest at a club meeting.  The winner will move on to an Area contest and if successful to the District competition in May.  The District winner receives $1000.00 in prize money!!

UPDATE:
WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!!!   Our speech contestant, Jeremi Roberts was outstanding!  He has won the Area 7 & 8 contests and moves onto the District finals on April 22nd!  Hal Garfield, Lynette Andersen, Steve Lemmon and yours truly were able to whoop it up when his name was announced.  There were a total of 8 contestants. Jeremi thrilled the audience after the results were announced with one of his poems.  Steve remarked that in his 28 years we have never had a winner at the area level.  Hope more of us can make the finals to support Jeremi.  Jo Ann  4/09
